The ISV Paper of the Year Award recognizes outstanding research that has made a significant impact in the field of vaccines selected by ISV Fellows and Board members. This award celebrates innovative science, rigorous methodology, and contributions that advance our understanding of immunology, vaccine development, or public health.

We were thrilled to welcome Dr. Alec W. Freyn from Moderna, who presented the ISV Paper of the Year at the ISV 2025 Annual Congress. The award-winning paper, published in Cell, is titled: “Comparison of protection against mpox following mRNA or modified vaccinia Ankara vaccination in nonhuman primates.”

This groundbreaking study provides critical insights into mpox protection strategies and highlights the potential of mRNA vaccines in combating Orthopoxvirus infections.

During his presentation, Dr. Freyn also shared exciting new data on the development of a broad Orthopoxvirus mRNA-LNP vaccine, representing a promising advance toward future pandemic preparedness.
