Strengthening Vaccine Protection in Africa

A crucial satellite meeting highlighted initiatives aimed at strengthening vaccine protection in Africa, for Africa. The discussion underscored the importance of regional partnerships and sustainable vaccine manufacturing in building health security across the continent.

Dr. Nicaise Ndembi, Deputy Director General of IVI and IARO Regional Director, emphasized that coordination and collaboration are key to achieving a “whole-of-Africa” approach.

Dr. Michael Lusiola, Director of RVMC, shared a striking fact: Africa currently imports over 99% of its vaccines, while the African Union has set a target to locally produce 60% of vaccines by 2040.
